Pre JIT. Android is a Dog.
I spent a bit of time adding some imap accounts to the email client on my Galaxy S and looks cool but I rather use profimail. Not because of the physical keyboard on my E72 but because the email client is slow and laggy on Android. In fact, despite the endless awesome apps for Android I still love the speed and stability of S60. I would never compare S60 5th to Android but S60 3rd is...

Bought a couple more apps
It took 6 months to get my Nokia 5800 50$ rebate but now I’m using the gift card to buy Android apps. Irony? Advanced Task Killer [ I wanted to get rid of the ads ] Touiteur Premium [ It’s cheap and awesome! ] I may also purchase NewsRob but 5 euro seems like a lot of dough.

DLNA/UPNP from Galaxy S to BD390
Nothing to say. It looks like it works. I believe this has worked on S60 devices for many years.

Galaxy S in the house
I bought three apps in less than 8 hours. SPB TV for 10$ from Handango [ I have a 25$ gift certificate ] SBSH PhoneWeaver for 5$ Pure Calendar Widget for 2EURO from the Android Market Quickoffice Connect and Touiteur Premium purchases in the next couple days as well. I’ve installed dozens of free apps but more on those in the future. Pictures of the new device here.

I bought a Galaxy S
I’ve spent a few minutes with Android via the SDK and despite the funny UI and giant buttons I want to give it a shot. The Streak and HTC Desire look awesome but I am tired of waiting for a flagship device with 3G support in North America Nokia has abandoned Eseries and premium devices so it’s time I explore other options. It would have been nice to wait for the N8 but 256meg of RAM...

I've almost made a decision !!
But not yet. Here more options for a primary mobile. I’ll keep the E72 as a secondary device. 1) Samsung Galaxy S - front face camera == T-Mobile Vibrant which ships in 3 weeks for 199$ 2)Dell Streak might ship in a month for 500$ 3) HTC Desire with Euro 3G can be had NOW for 500$ to 550$ All of this is complicated by Bing cashback ending the end of July. My first choice is the Dell...

What now? [ again ]
I’m writing this post from the back seat of a car speeding down I5 in California. Rather than use a tumblr client I’ll compose in profimail. Anyway… I no longer love the E72. The faster CPU is wonderful but the camera and GPS are useless. My device was rebooting 5 to 10 times a day until the latest firmware update. The passion has died and I need something fresh. The N900 and E51...

N900 up again but battle with E72 is fierce.
After removing the 8GB microSDHC from the N900 it boots fine. I’m in love again. I’ll be loading comics up on Sunday and back in action. But now my SIM is back in the E72 so perhaps I need a T-Mobile USA SIM. — Love how the E72 glitters in the Sun. Only one more app to transfer to the new IMEI and I’ll be back in action. I love profimail and Quickoffice. Worth every...

N900 out | E72 in
I had a filesystem issue on the N900. The issue on a BSD or Linux server at the office would be nothing but I do not want to deal with bugs of this magnitude on my N900. If my holiday photos are gone I will be done with Maemo until the N900 has a proper followup. I should have used rsync! The camera crashed and took down the entire device. Now my microSDHC, swap and one more volume do not mount...

Android for soccer Moms
I’ve seen the future. The people will get sick of Ed Zander #2 AKA Ralph de la Vega, his excuses regarding a 30$ data plan, and how somehow that does not justify always on DATA. The soccer Mom’s of Cupertino rocking iPhones the last couple years will drop ATT for CDMA/EVDO clunkers running Android. I heard exactly THAT conversation from two old ladies when out for lunch today. Can...

N900 in;iPod Touch 2G out
I should have the N900 next week and just in time. My E51 battery is toast, the screen was flickering Wednesday and I dropped my Touch 2G. I’m looking forward to having a handheld Debian device. I hope the display is more responsive than the “stab me please” Nokia 5800.

Some reasons I love the iPhone
1) Grannies talk about firmware updates 2) Localization is slick [ Chinese support for my lady ] 3) Less people cry when paying for a device 4) HSPA infrastructure gets upgrades [ My E51’s 850 HSPA works everywhere ] 5) Venture Capital care about Mobile software 6) Normal people want to chat about Mobile [ even Android ] 7) Nokia got a kick in the ass 8) Hot girls at Mobile Monday

A few #i8910 resources
This S60 5th editon flagship device will never be available with a US warranty but I feel it’s importance is understated. Here are some sites with i8910 coverage worth watching. http://samsung.hdblog.it http://dailymobile.se/ http://www.samsungomniahd.com/ http://innovator.samsungmobile.com/

China Unicom
A few thoughts gathered in Beijing and Chengdu. The kiosks at the airport look better than any other SIM and/or calling card vendor and kudos for sticking a cute girl in a uniform with the machine in the heavy traffic areas. Your storefronts are mostly dumps run by old people with zero devices. You need beautiful showrooms like the China Mobile shop in Xidan. I see you’re building a...

iPhone 2009 anti-predictions
What you might want but will not see this June. 1) HTC style sexy. So you think the Diamond 2 or Touch HD looks hot? Forget it! 2) AMOLED display. This would prolong the terrible battery life and lead the pack. Are you joking? 3) 802.11n support like the rest of the product lines. It’s not common yet and apple needs to keep the BOM under 180$ Get stuffed! 4) Slider keyboard. Like the...

New Firmware? Nokia Multimedia Transfer busted?
After this week’s FW update NMT was useless. C: would fill up or the 8GB microSDHC would be stuck offline. I tried to remove the add the device but that did not help but I removed all of theseĀ  files and rebooted the E71. Now NMT is doing something. Nokia Device Browser Nokia Map Loader Nokia Media Transfer Nokia Multimedia Transfer com.nokia.MapLoader.plist...

My minimum #E71 configuration
After reviewing some notes I made at the gym and the old post from blogspot I’m starting to see if I’m not careful I’ll end up with dozens of applications on my E71, which may put me right back where I was with half a day of battery life and stuck installers. I will need one IM application to chat a Skype user in China [possibly Nimbuzz] but at this time my application list is...

Rebuilding the E71
I’ve been running on old Firmware for to long so on a whim I upgraded and reformated my 8GB microSDHC, after a backup. Now I’ll try to figure out exaclty what I want on the device. Booting is always fast after a hard reset so I’m not sure if the new FW is actually any better. I was sick of the battery going flat after 6 hours so here we are. It’s a shame S60 never...

Post 3.0 digestion
Now we’ve all seen 50 iPhone 3.0 posts in our RSS feeds what’s really going to happen? Will Touch users pay 10$ for the upgrade? Will iPhone normobs care? The 1.5 hour video is available online and other than the slowness it’s completely bearable and interesting in more ways than a 4 line blog post could articulate. No background apps? That’s OK. Run IM over HSPA for 12...

OpenSigned Rocks!
Anyone following and using S60 for the last couple years will recall endless troubles of developers getting their apps out. Now we have Open Signed there are a lot of wonderful unsigned apps worth testing. Here are a few of the best. PhoNetInfo FreeTimeBox Swim Note: I do not have interested in hacking my devices to support unsigned apps.
