iPhone 2009 anti-predictions
What you might want but will not see this June.
1) HTC style sexy. So you think the Diamond 2 or Touch HD looks hot? Forget it!
2) AMOLED display. This would prolong the terrible battery life and lead the pack. Are you joking?
3) 802.11n support like the rest of the product lines. It’s not common yet and apple needs to keep the BOM under 180$ Get stuffed!
4) Slider keyboard. Like the HTC stuff? The device is already fragile. Any moving parts and it’ll fall to pieces in months. Apple wants it to be fragile but not if it costs them cash on RMA headaches.
5) Tegra. I’m ready for a HD portable video appliance. Saturate rubbish North American networks with 720p or god forbid 1080p video from iTunes? No! Protect that weak and sick beast apple tv.
6) RAM. We can never get enough. Remember NeXT? My first unix workstation maxed out at 32meg of ram. The next iteration maxed out at 128meg. It took a hell of a long time to get past that limit. We’ll be lucky to get 192meg on the next device.
7) flac. Normal people demand toiletflushing and random noise under the banner of A2DP. Apple lossless is OK. No idea why this is outside of the ecosystem. Unlike most formats it should have zero IP issues.
8) snapdragon. Apple should be working on an inhouse CPU by now. So I’ll say no-way for that one reason.
9) LTE. I’m guessing 2011 or 2012, if ever.
How will they impress us again? I have idea but I’ll want the next iPhone as much as anyone else.
